Leilani's Salutatory Speech
Branford High School Graduation
Class of 2006
Good Evening.
“Grace will get me
there…Grace will keep me there. The only thing that has me standing here is
Grace”. These are the words of the song I sang last Wednesday during the
baccalaureate program and these are the same words I’d like to say to my classmates,
friends and family tonight.
As the school year ends and as I
venture into the world out there, I think of what has carried me through the years. I
think of my parents who have cared for me, supported me, and loved me unconditionally. And
I think of my grandparents who have spent time with me, and given me wisdom. Then I think
of my friends who have shared many experiences with me. Then there’s my church family
who has shared with enthusiasm the gift God has given me in music. I thank them all for
their support, love and presence. I have made wonderful memories with them all. But these
memories alone won’t sustain me through the future. There is only one thing that will
take me there… the only thing that will keep me there…the only thing that has me standing here…is God’s
Grace- the gift of His Son Jesus Christ.
We have a lot in store for us and it
will take courage to grab every opportunity God sends our way. It will take perseverance
to undertake them. And it will take faith to accomplish them. But remember….God has
given each one of us different talents equal to the task He gives us. He intends for us to
use our talents. So, I ask you, as we part our ways, to discover your talents, and use
them for others and for God’s glory, not just for yourself.

us be as lights in our world…. We can do it…because Grace will take us
there…and Grace will keep us there….the only thing that has us standing
here…… is Grace.
