Have you heard? Last April 15, Leilani competed against five other finalists
at a national Talents from Towns Under Two Thousand (T-TUTT) contest held in
New York City. The contest was sponsored and broadcast live by the national public radio
program, A Prairie Home Companion, with Garrison
Keillor. Lani was one of 6 finalists chosen from hundreds of entries nationwide, and was
flown to New York (all expense paid) to compete before a live audience of 1500 and a radio
listening audience of 2.8 million! Lani won first place and received a $1000 check and a
water tower trophy. During the contest, Lani sang Nitey Nite, a song
written way back in 1947 by our friend Charlie Piliero. The winning song talks about a
mommy putting her daughter to bed and asking her to pray for her daddy who was still
overseas, fighting for our freedom. It is a moving song about families and the love that
binds them together. (Nitey Nite is also featured in Lanis new album). As the
winner, Lani was asked to sing an encore song, for which she sang I'm Amazed,
a song which speaks of Gods rich blessings and the amazement we feel for being part
of His wonderful plan! Lanis rendition of both songs, as we learned later through
phone calls, snail mails and e-mails from people all over the country and the world, truly
touched many lives. We are still amazed at how God used that one chance and one venue
(public radio) to reach and minister to His people all over the world. And we are even
more amazed that He chose to use Lani for this. We hope that one day we shall be able to
share all the wonderful details of this blessing with you. If you wish to listen to the
entire radio broadcast of the contest, log on to www.prairiehome.org and click the archived show
for April 15, 2000. |
Since
winning the contest, the Lord has opened even more opportunities for our family to
minister at various places and functions. It is also amazing how God has brought to our lives certain people who have become
instrumental in Lanis singing career. We truly believe that God has started
something beautiful and He is faithful to complete it in His due time, for His honor and
glory. In the meantime, please pray for us as we continue to follow His will. Pray that we
may always seek to hear His voice, not ours. Timothy, in addition to Dan playing the keyboard and
guitar for Lani, is now a big part of Lanis singing ministry. He plays the bass
guitar and sings back up vocals when Lani sings. Victoria, on the other hand, folds her
hand in prayer before, during, and after her family sings for His glory.
Our ApoIogies
Some of you have
not heard from us for over a year. We failed to send greeting cards last Christmas so we
apologize for this apparent neglect. Over the past year the Lord put us through a series
of valley and mountain top experiences-to show us His great love and mercy. Because of
these experiences, we found ourselves totally immersed in the familys activities:
attending to each others needs and keeping up with the increasing demands of
Leilanis singing ministry.
